Katharina Turnauer Privatstiftung is a non-profit, charitable and private organization, founded in 2009 by the Turnauer Family. Its goal is to alleviate human suffering and to promote a sense of community as the necessary basis for personal development. The foundation supports social projects financially, organisationally, and with special expertise. The projects are linked closely and supported by the companies of Constantia Industries AG, a multinational holding company active in Austria for over 40 years. Katharina Turnauer serves also as chairwoman of the Association SOMARO, indicating the close link between the Foundation and SOMARO.

ERSTE Foundation currently holds 20.13% of the stock of Erste Group Bank AG, and invests its dividend revenue in the development of civil society – focusing on the fields of social integration, support for contemporary culture, and promotion of European integration – in Austria, Central and South Eastern Europe. ERSTE Foundation supports SOMARO financially and with special expertise, e.g. in public relations.

ISOVOLTA AG is a Romanian subsidiary of ISOVOLTA Group, a leading international manufacturer of electrical insulating materials, technical laminates and composites. It maintains a global presence and is a part of Constantia Industries AG. The ISOVOLTA AG supports SOMARO in various ways. To name some, it handles the accounting of the association and provides the Bucharest store with storage facilities.

SOMA Austria was founded in Linz in 1999 and now operates more than 30 social supermarkets in several Austrian cities and towns. SOMA has three objectives: firstly, to assist people who live below the poverty line; secondly, to make use of items and products that would otherwise go to waste, and thirdly, to integrate people who might otherwise might be excluded and isolated from society. SOMARO partners with SOMA Austria in order to learn from their broad experience and expertise.

The Embassy of Austria in Bucharest supports the development of SOMARO in Romania and has been especially helpful at implementing the stores in Bucharest and Sibiu.

Bucharest Sector 1 City Hall supports the project implementation by providing the SOMARO facility in Bucharest.

The Offices for Social Care and Child Protection (Bucharest Sector 1, Sibiu) support SOMARO by identifying eligible customers for our stores.
